I don’t want to say we have been disappointed with California so far, because we have visited some interesting places here in the San Diego area. It’s just that we had this preconceived notion that it was someplace special and it’s really very ordinary. I guess our preconceptions were rooted in the ever present TV and movie depictions of it as some kind of fantasy land. The reality is California has traffic, cloudy days, dirty streets, Wal-Mart’s, and homeless people; in other words, it’s just like lots of other places we’ve been.
The magic place bubble now burst, we’re still looking forward to traveling up the length of the state with open minds as we know there are many things to see and do here. This morning we are moving up to the Los Angeles area for a few days.
