Touring the town

May 19 2012

Nashville is of course known for country music, but there is much more to it than the Grand Ol Opry. Almost all the downtown high rise buildings are of very contemporary design. The city has a full size reproduction of the Parthenon, the Greek temple to the goddess Athena; there are many interesting things to see.

With the limited time we were spending in the city we decided a guided tour was the best way to see the sights. Besides the aforementioned surprises we also saw music row, homes of stars, the Honky Tonk district, and more. We toured the Ryman Auditorium, the original home of the Grand Ol Opry radio show until 1974. We were surprised at how small it seemed on the inside.

Tomorrow we head west again; we’re going to bypass Memphis, cross the Mississippi River and head for Little Rock, Arkansas.
