Walking the Golden Gate bridge

June 21 2012

Today really made me appreciate Myrtle Beach where it was in the 80’s today, I don’t think it got much higher than 68 degrees here in San Francisco. Where we are just north of the Golden Gate Bridge we had a mostly sunny day which made the low temps tolerable. Over the city there was a heavy marine layer which we could see rolling in from the ocean all day. We did domestic chores in the morning, hoping something would lift, the temperature, the marine layer, something to make our bridge walk enjoyable. Nothing changed but at least it wasn’t raining.

Undaunted by the weather, after lunch we drove to the visitor’s center at the south end of the bridge. The bridge is about 2 miles across; we walked from south to the north shore, turned around and walked back to the south shore. The gradient of the bridge was not as steep as I thought it would be so we had an easy time and enjoyed the experience. The views are fantastic and the bridge itself is an engineering marvel, it was built 75 years ago. I recommend it as something to add to the list, everybody should get out here and walk the Golden Gate once in their lives.

A follow up on the computer screen saga, the laptop screen is still working, we returned the remote monitor this evening, mostly because it was really flimsy and I was afraid it would break. BestBuy refunded my money without a hassle.

Tomorrow we hit the road again, only traveling about seventy miles north to visit with Millie’s niece. Soon we will be leaving California and entering Oregon.
