The gas can fiasco!

May 15 2012

The idea to carry a plastic gas container and use it for the generator hit a snag yesterday. I put it in the back of the jeep while driving to Virginia and the jeep interior reeked of gasoline when we got to Front Royal.

SOAPBOX WARNING, Those plastic outboard motor fuel tanks are worthless pieces of S^*T! I had forgotten how they all seep gas at the plastic fuel pick up; even if you leave the vent open. Someone should be arrested for making and selling them! Sorry I just needed to say that.

Today I gathered up some stuff from the motorhome, made a quick trip to Lowes for some hardware and built a gas tank carrier for the back of the motorhome. It fits in the receiver hitch that my bike rack is usually in. I think we are going to be ok with the solution.

We also went to town and walked to some Confederate War memorials, then drove to Prospect Hill Cemetery, final resting place for 186 honored men of the Confederate Army who gave their lives in defense of truth and right. The cemetery also holds the remains of 7 confederate soldiers from Mosby’s Rangers who were executed by General Grant as a warning to the Confederate rangers.

I learned an interesting fact about southern town Civil War Memorials, they all have a statue of a Confederate soldier facing north, always vigilant in case the Northern aggressor’s ever return.
