Lake J. Percy Priest

May 18 2012

Today we drove from Crossville to Nashville, both in Tennessee. It was just a short hop of around 110 miles but it was lunch time when we got settled in at Nashville. We stopped at Wal-Mart for some “stuff” and also refueled the motorhome.

We were traveling without a reservation, just a plan to stop at a Corp of Engineers Campground and hope a walk-in site would be available. Unfortunately they were full, but they called the other COE campground on the opposite side of the lake and we were told they had one site available.

As we drove all the way around the lake I was thinking maybe we were being a penny wise and a dollar foolish running around looking for a site here? When we arrived at the campground the gate keeper told us we had been told in error that there was a site for us. After some whispering and staring at the reservation board they said to go into the camp and if I could fit in #35 we could stay there.

It was an easy fit, we’re in site #35 of a beautiful wooded camp for which we paid $10 a night, the alternative would have been one of the tourist oriented campgrounds in town for upwards of $65-75 a night.

Tomorrow we drive down town to do the tourist thing.
