As planned we hiked several miles of the rim trail at the Grand
Canyon yesterday and stopped at the tower overview at the East park
entrance on our way out this morning. Our original loose itinerary had
us next going to thru Los Vegas to tour the Hoover Dam, but we’ve had to
change plans. The Dash air conditioner is loosing Freon at an
unacceptable rate and we need to get it repaired.
The AC is a
hybrid using a Ford Brand engine mounted compressor and the chassis
mounted components by a company called Tempcon. Being that our truck is
our home and I don’t want it out of service for long what I don’t need
is some clueless mechanic who is lost when his diagnostic flow chart
can’t lead him to the defective part. I need someone who knows air
conditioners and can fix one without an owner’s manual. Arizona Mobile
Air is an AC parts distributor, manufacturer, and repair shop, they come
highly recommended by my online resources. So we drove 250 miles due
south and are now in Phoenix Arizona.
We drove to their shop
this afternoon and spoke with them, we will take the motorhome to them
early tomorrow morning. They offered to let us stay in the motorhome in
their fenced in lot but we decided to go to a nearby RV park. The RV was
hot after driving today and we wanted enough power to run both roof air
conditioners. Plus we would be locked in their lot after they closed at
5pm till morning, if need be we will stay in the lot tomorrow night but
tonight we opted for the RV park.
We have a list of errands to
run tomorrow while the motorhome is being repaired and have goggled
store locations. One of the things we need to pick up is a new tow bar.
We bounced over an unseen cattle guard when leaving the Meteor Crater
the other day and I think that is when we broke the tow bar, we hadn’t
unhooked the jeep until today so had not noticed it. I plan on stopping
at the manufacturer on the way home and have the broken one rebuilt; I
will then sell it on eBay and get some of my new tow bar purchase money
back.
Things happen, we deal with them as they come, it’s part of the adventure. Life is good!
See you down the road.
